Creation Care

At St. John’s, we recognize that caring for God’s creation is an essential part of our faith and stewardship. Rooted in gratitude and responsibility, our commitment to creation care reflects our call to be faithful stewards of the earth, nurturing the beauty and life that surrounds us.

Through the initiatives listed below, St. John’s embraces the sacred duty of environmental stewardship. Whether through prayerful reflection in the McKimmon Memorial Gardens, hands-on work in the Common Ground Garden, or advocacy through our Stewardship of Creation Committee, we commit ourselves to nurturing God’s world with love, respect, and hope for generations to come.

Join us in this sacred work! Whether you feel called to dig in the soil, support our initiatives, or simply spend time in these beautiful spaces, we welcome you to be part of our ongoing care for God’s creation.

Creation Care Initiatives

Common Ground

The Common Ground Garden is a vibrant expression of our commitment to environmental stewardship and community. Featuring native plants, new structures, and an irrigation system designed to sustain local ecosystems, this garden supports the natural life of North Alabama. We invite all to join us in tending this sacred space, fostering growth, beauty, and biodiversity as we care for this corner of God’s creation together.

Jackson Street Garden

Originally planted and lovingly tended by the late parishioner D.D. Martin, this beautiful garden along Jackson Street continues to bring joy to all who pass by, a lasting testament to care and devotion.

McKimmon Memorial Garden

The McKimmon Memorial Gardens serve as a sacred space of reflection, remembrance, and renewal. Within this space, the Memorial Garden provides a resting place for ashes, offering a peaceful sanctuary for prayer and contemplation. This garden is not only a place to honor loved ones but also a living witness to our belief in resurrection, the continuity of life, and the sacredness of creation.

Stewardship of Creation Committee

Our Stewardship of Creation Committee leads efforts to care for our shared environment, guiding our parish in sustainable practices, education, and hands-on engagement with our church grounds and beyond. Whether through conservation efforts, gardening, or community initiatives, we seek to honor God’s creation by preserving and restoring the natural world.
