Mission Statement
“To improve the quality of life in Morgan County by preventing child abuse and neglect through empowering individuals and families, including parent education, direct services, public awareness, and school programs which are based on ongoing assessment of community needs.”

What is the Family Resource Center?
It is PACT’s friendly staff and volunteers who help families in a caring environment. PACT will work with families by providing needed services. We will also contact other agencies for families needing their help.

Who can participate in services?
Anyone living in Morgan County may participate. The Family Resource Center serves parents, grandparents, couples, singles, teens, and children. PACT can help all families.

Our services are FREE!
All the PACT activities and opportunities are offered to families and individuals free. PACT also works with other agencies that come to our center to provide their services which are also free. We are committed to making sure that families receive the services they need.

Child Abuse Prevention is the most effective approach. For every $1.00 spent on prevention, a minimum of $39.00 is saved in the cost of treatment.

PACT Services

Educating Parents and Other Caregivers

* Newborn: Our trained volunteers visit mothers at Decatur General Hospital and Parkway Medical Center to give them information about parenting skills and community resources.

* Baby Talk: PACT helps before the baby is born. Trained volunteers coordinate parenting classes that give expectant mothers and fathers information they need before their baby is born.

* Kids and You: This on-going parenting class is open to everyone and child care is provided.


Student Awareness

* Tricky People: This first grade program teaches simple, straightforward tools children should use to protect themselves.

* Better Safe Than Sorry: This two session program for third graders includes a puppet show that deals with all types of abuse.

* Ridin’ the Roller Coaster: In this three-day seventh grade program, the focus is on the importance of families, learning to cope when problems arise, anger management, and child abuse prevention.

* The Parenting Profession: Tenth grade students receive a three-hour parenting course that focuses on the roles of both mothers and fathers, stresses faced by teen parents, the needs of children, and child abuse prevention.


Direct Service

* Parents as Teachers (PAT): All parents can benefit from this parent education program that provides month-by-month guidelines on what you can expect as your child grows and develops. This can help parents give their children the best possible start in life. PACT offers PAT to the community, as well as to high school students in Decatur City Schools.

* Safe Havens Pilot Program: Supervised visitation for families experiencing separation.

* FACT (Family Assistance Through Community Ties): This program provides family resource center services onsite at three Decatur City Schools Title One Elementary Schools.

Public Awareness

* Speakers’ Bureau: PACT is available to make presentations regarding a variety of parenting topics, child abuse and neglect, or information regarding PACT programs.

* Family Resource Center: This is a lending library with books and videos focusing on a variety of parenting topics and life skills. Information regarding child abuse and neglect is also available to the community.

* Partners in Prevention: Everyone who works with children has a responsibility to keep them safe. These presentations are for educators, child care providers, and other groups. It is based on the Educator’s Resource Manual on child abuse.
